Total Loss, the second record from Tom Krell, bka How To Dress Well, is set to drop this September via Weird World (worldwide) and Acéphale (North America). It's also my most highly anticipated release this year, considering his first record, Love Remains, was my favorite release of 2010. From the bits we've been lucky to hear so far, it doesn't look like this one will disappoint me. The newest preview is the above video ad of sorts attached to the previously unheard "Cold Nites". The song, co-produced by Krell with Forest Swords and Rodaidh McDonald, is moody and noisy and built on heart wrenching piano keys, carried by slow, swollen kicks and claps; qualities I've grown fond of from HTDW. In the end it's Krell's voice that seeps in and wraps around every note, building the song into an emotional plea for guidance, that gets me as always. He manages to convey an emotional sense of frustration and desire that's often hard to put into words. If you missed it before, you can also check out the records first leaked track, "Ocean Floor For Everything", below.
